Obituary

Terry Hanson Haynes, age 73, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on Thursday, January  21, 2021, due to complications from several ongoing medical conditions. He is preceded  in death by his parents, John Hanson Haynes and Mildred Harris Haynes. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Morse Haynes.

Terry was an Army combat veteran of the Viet Nam war, a forward observer in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a Silver Legacy Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars,  serving as Quartermaster and Post Commander of the Raymond G. Davis Post 1200 in  Alpharetta, Georgia.

Celebrating his Scottish heritage, Terry was active in the Clan Hay Society American  Branch. He held the position of Region 2 (Southeast) Representative to the Board and  served as Convener for the Stone Mountain Highland Games in Atlanta for many years.  Terry played bagpipes in the Atholl Highlanders Pipe & Drum Band - and played for  weddings, funerals, and other events as The Pickled Piper. Terry was also a Knight  Templar and a member of the National Ski Patrol.

Terry was owner/principal of The Haynes Group, DBA Morgan & Associates/Test for  Hire, a psychological employment testing company. An Eagle Scout, he was also  employed at one time as a professional for the Boy Scouts of America.

Friends refer to Terry as “larger than life,” both in terms of personality and physical  presence. They recall his “smiling blue eyes” and his decorated Santa Claus hat during  the holidays. Outgoing and charismatic, he seemed to fill the room when he entered it,  and no one who met him ever forgot him.

Due to Covid and the winter weather, funeral arrangements for Terry will be delayed  until June 2021, on or near his birthday (June 22, 1947). He will be interred at the  Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, with full military honors, with a  “Celebration of Life” immediately following. Friends will be notified of the exact date and details.

Terry was a dog lover and a military man. So, in lieu of flowers, please donate to: K9s  for Warriors (https://www.k9sforwarriors.org) or Tunnel to Towers Foundation  (http://www.tunnel2towers.org).
