HAMPTON - James Lewis Sawyer, 60, died Sunday, March 7, 2004. He was a native and lifelong resident of Hampton.

Mr. Sawyer was a 1965 graduate of Kecoughtan High School and a 1975 graduate of Coyne Electronics School. He was well-known as an honest television repairman throughout the Peninsula. He worked for more than 20 years for Wythe TV and Appliance in the Wythe section of Hampton and was self-employed for more than 20 years under the name of Jim Sawyer TV Repair Service.

Jim was a member of the Newport News Moose Lodge #1119 and the Sons of the American Legion for more than 20 years.

Earl P. Bell, Jr.

Jim is a student who stands out in my memory.  As I recall, as a boy he was in a horrible car accident and I believe had a plate in his head.  I remember his outstanding step mother who worked tirelessly helping him with his school work.  He was an amazing young man who overcame so much.  What a outstanding person!  I will never forget him and remain deeply impressed with all that he achieved.
