Don Angelo Dugo - Class Of 1965

Don Angelo Dugo

Donald A. Dugo
On Thursday, March 4, 2021, the Dugo family of Virginia lost their first patriarch’s son, Donald A. Dugo. Don was born in Hampton Virginia on December 1, 1947 to Angelo and Mary Dugo. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1965 and later served active duty in Vietnam for the U.S. Army. Don was proud of his family heritage which included his father’s active duty during WWII, where Angelo whose family immigrated to the USA from Italy, served as an air engineer working on the P-51 Mustangs of the 352nd Fighter Group. His mother (Mary Novak, maiden name) immigrated from Czechoslovakia to Hopewell, VA in the early 1900’s and later moved to New York City where she met Angelo.

Following his own service in active duty, Donnie, as he was affectionately known by some, returned to civilian life and went on to father two sons, Michael and Mark, with his then wife Sharon. Donnie worked several years in civil service as a firefighter and later went on to earn his real estate broker’s license. He was self-employed in real estate for over 40 years, working until the day he passed suddenly at his home in Lancaster County, VA.

To all who knew him, Don was an astute businessman with a sense of loyalty that was largely unrivaled. He instilled a strong work ethic onto his sons, and he was central to defining their respective identities as fathers to their own children. Donnie loved his leisure as much as he loved his work, and he was an avid world traveler with an infectious spirit of adventure that he shared with all who were close to him.

Don was highly skilled in the art of shag dancing, and was a former long-time member of the Boogie on the Bay Shag Club and served in various positions including President and Special Events Coordinator. Also, he was a member of the Association of Beach and Shag Club DJs and served as the house DJ for the Colonial Shag Club for many years.

Donnie’s ashes will rest in the earth along the banks of the Corrottoman River near the Chesapeake Bay, along with those of his beloved Jack Russell Terriers, Haley and Cagney. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Donnie’s life during a service at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA on Friday, March 12 at 10:00am for a celebration of life service. The church asks that attendees plan to arrive a little early, to allow time for COVID screening protocols. Masks are required to enter the church.

Donnie is survived by his sons, Michael and Mark (Erika); his grandchildren, Michael Jr., Collin, Gabriel, Sofia, Kelan, Kate, and Nate; his beloved first cousin Rose Marie Reid and her children (and their respective families): Gordon Reid, Suzanne Imboden, Robert Reid; his cousin, David Hendrick and his loving Jack Russell terriers, Jack & Jill . His memory and contributions to many in this life will be cherished among family and friends for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for anyone that is interested, to make donations to the Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck
