Stephen Douglas Hensley

  POQUOSON - Stephen D. Hensley, 64, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. He was a native of Hampton and a resident of Poquoson for 14 years.
He was a Dock Master for the City of Newport News and prior, he retired as a Captain with the Hampton Fire Department. As a veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Vietnam War where he was a highly decorated Ranger, and obtained the rank of Staff Sargent. He was a member of the American Legion.
Preceding him in rest is his father, Carl Hensley. Surviving members of his family include his wife of 14 years, Tracey A. Hensley; daughters, Marcia O'Donnell and husband, Shaun, Kimberly Hensley, Shaunna Lorditch and husband, Jason; grandchildren, Michael Hensley, Jessica Hensley, Aidan O'Donnell and Sierra O'Donnell; mother, Nora O'Keefe Hensley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andy and Jan Andrews; sister-in-law, Debbie Diggs; nephew, Andrew Diggs; and numerous cousins and extended family members. Also important in his life are his faithful furry companions, Truman and Frankie who are deceased, and Toby, Caysea and Chance who survive him.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Stephen's life will be held at noon Friday, April 15, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA 23666.

STEPHEN AND I WERE GOOD FRIEINDS IN HIGH SCHOOL. AFTER VIETNAM I NEVER RETURNED TO HAMPTON AFTER GROWING UP THERE. STEPHEN WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY PRAYS.  JOHN HILDEBRAND
